Books read in January:
Promise Me by Richard Paul Evans
I was given this book for Christmas from my mother in law so while we were in Utah visiting I decided to read it. I can't rember the last novel I read and I used to be an avid reader. I love to read and get lost in a really good book. This book definitely kept my interest and made me want to keep reading but was it a really good book, no not really. Not a book I would pick up to read again. It had a weird twist at the end that made all the reality of the book disappear. Anyway what this book did do is spark my enthusiasm and love for reading again. I have told myself over and over that I am to busy to read anything other than my scriptures. But I made a new years resolution to read whenever I have a chance. So far I think I have done pretty good. So I will keep you updated on the books that I am reading throughout the year.
The History of Joseph Smith by His Mother Lucy Mack Smith
We found out we were having our third child in August 2010 and in December we got the incredibly exciting news that it was a girl. A girl after having two beautiful boys the odds were not good and I have always had this feeling that I would have a house full of boys. The Lord is blessing us with a daughter. Well we have had a really hard time picking out a name. I've brought up some that we have liked for a day or two but nothing that stuck. I brought up Lucy at one point soon after we found out it was a girl and Rich immediately said no so I didn't think of it again...until the beginning of January it came to me again. We have done the naming after someone with our two boys and so I wanted to keep up the tradition. I borrowed this book from my Granny over a year ago and haven't taken the time to read it so I thought now is the perfect time, I am going to learn about this woman and see if she is a person I would want our daughter to be named after to look up to. She proved herself to me time and time again throughout this book she is an amazing woman. She was devoted to her husband, children but mainly to the Lord and to his true church. Her testimony never wavered she was a rock for others to lean on. So I told Rich as we were driving to church one sunday, I said I want you to think about the name Lucy again just think about it. Then that evening I said her name is Lucy! He had agreed and so now our little girl has a name Little Lucy Mae Dunn.
The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller
I had no idea what this book was about I just knew it was well known and I had a copy of it on my bookshelf. It was short so I thought it would be a good one I could check off on my list of books to read that have been on my shelf for who knows how long. It was another one that has you captivated. It was a romantic love story though I had no clue that it was a scandalous love story. The good in the end though was the unselfishness of the woman to stay with her commitments to her husband and children. Too often in the world today you see to many people that have their own selfish desires, that are not happy with the way their lives have turned out and think the hill must be greener on the other side and decide to try it out only to find that its not bliss and romance everyday for the rest of your life. Life is supposed to have challenges, difficulties and is not going to be perfect every moment. How else would we grow. The other thing this book made me want to do is to be a better wife and to spice up our lives so that it doesn't turn into this monotonous routine life that we live everyday over and over. I want to bring in more excitement and passion for living into my marriage and into our family.
Books Read in February:
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
One of the BEST books I have EVER read in my life. I would read this book over and over and over again. If I could only have five books on my shelf it would be one of them. Our next daughter if we have one is going to have to be Corrie or Betsie or Nollie or named after one of these amazing women. The courage and strength, the love for family and for God eminates out of every page of this book. I didn't want to stop reading the moment I picked it up. They had such tremendous faith and empathy it really makes you want to be a better person. I don't know what I can say about this book other than it is a must read for everyone my children will be reading this book time and again as will I.
Books finished in May:
Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman
LOVED this book!! It was just a great feel good novel. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me want to be a better person!! Enough said.
Here are a few quotes I love from my two favorite characters:
"Don't go wastin' all them bright tomorrows you ain't even seen by hangin' on to what happened yesterday." -Oletta
"People is wise 'cause they get out in the world and live. Wisdom comes from experience--from knowin' each day is a gift and accepting it with gladness." -Oletta
"It's what we believe about ourselves that determines how others see us." -Aunt Tootie
