Memorial Day!
So today was the LA Marathon. The first marathon I ever decided to run and trained for 13 weeks until I got injured, what a bummer! I decided last December to do it and downloaded an 18 week training program. So in January I started running very slowly at first! I couldn't believe how out of shape I was. I started running a few mornings a week with Kim, a friend in my ward and I could barely breath. Then after like two weeks I was getting shin splints pretty bad so I became a shin splint expert. I read all sorts of ways to heal them and I went to the local running store and got some awesome new shoes! My shoes I had were like two years old at least. So I kept running but just took it easy and my shin splints eventually went away. Then at week 13 I did one of my long runs with Brett and Briana we ran 18 miles and I felt like I could have kept going and going! I had so much energy, the next week I woke up early monday morning and ran my five mile loop with Kim and the rest of that day my groin felt sore but I didn't think much of it I just thought I was sore from my long run on Saturday. So Wednesday morning I woke up and ran the five miles again then the rest of that day I was sore again. Then Friday morning I got up and thought to myself I really shouldn't run this morning but I did anyway and I could barely walk home after running the five miles with Kim. I could barley get around my house, so after talking to a few people and researching on the internet I self diagnosed a stress fracture in my hip. I didn't want to go get it checked because I don't have health insurance and they wouldn't be able to do anything for me anyway except tell me to stay off of it. I couldn't even lift my left leg to get dressed for about a week. So the marathon was out of the question, I was bummed mostly because I had my routine I was getting in really good shape to then not be able to do anything. I started swimming a couple days a week which is awesome I love swimming it's just a little bit more difficult to find the time. So my running partners were Kim, my wonderful mom, Briana and Brett. They came up quite a bit on Saturdays to do our long runs which was so fun! My mom, Briana, and Brett all ran the marathon and did awesome! I am very excited for them and their accomplishment! I told them when I am able to do another one they will just have to do it again! It was fun having family to train with, I wouldn't do it any other way! I just need to talk Rich into doing it with me that would be sooo fun!!! Saint George 2010 here we come (if we can get in)!!!!
